The End of the Internet and Cable TV As We Know It

If the US Senate joins the House in passing the COPE Act, the Internet and cable television will change forever. Critics of the Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement (COPE) Act claim that American citizens will suffer a tremendous blow to the freedoms promised by the miracles of 21st century technology if the bill is signed into law.

Bill HR5252 enjoyed bi-partisan support as it was approved in the US House of Representatives by a vote of 321 to 101. Telephone and cable companies like AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and others have spent tens of millions of dollars lobbying federal and state representatives in their bid to ease regulations on Internet and cable network trafficking.

The COPE Act has staggering implications. Those who could be affected include:

  • Independent filmmakers and musicians, who in the Internet finally have a way around stifling corporate distribution monopolies, may be hindered by higher fees and restricted access.
  • Bloggers could be blocked if they continue to report stories that mainstream media companies find objectionable.
  • Community and political activists could be charged additional fees for organizing online.
  • Local municipalities would lose a valuable funding mechanism from local cable television franchise fees.
  • Public access television may eventually lose funding and be eliminated.
  • Poorer communities could lose broadband Internet and/or cable television access altogether. Continue reading

The Democrats are Punks – Part 3

If stalling is a viable strategy, why be surprised that some Dems are even promoting LOSING as a winning prospect? Really. Last week Tony Coelho told Adam Nagourney that NOT gaining majorities in the House and Senate might be better for Democrats, since then they won’t be blamed for the mess the country is in.

“The most politically advantageous thing for the Democrats is to pick up 11, 12 seats in the House and three or four seats in the Senate but let the Republicans continue to be responsible for government,” Coelho, a former House Democratic whip, told the Times. “We are heading into this period of tremendous deficit, plus all the scandals, plus all the programs that have been cut. This way, they get blamed for everything.”

No wonder the punks always lose. They WANT to lose!

The Democrats are Punks – Part 2

This 40-minute video clip is a no holds barred attack on the spineless Democratic Party leadership that voices the reasons many of us feel the Dems are hopeless. It’s good stuff.

From the Huffington Post:

Wesley Clark, Jr. Goes After The Democratic Party Establishment
Cenk Uygur

Wesley Clark, Jr. was an integral part of his dad’s presidential campaign in 2004, and in his appearance on The Young Turks today unloaded on the entire Democratic Party establishment.

He names names, calls out specific Democratic consultants that worked on the Wesley Clark campaign and goes after the party leadership.

His criticism of the Democrats is only matched by his blistering attack against the Republican Party. His story on how John McCain acts in private is devastating.

He also goes after Bob Shrum, Joe Lieberman, James Carville and even some bloggers on Daily Kos. No one is spared, including me at the end. If you’re faint of heart, don’t watch this clip. And I’m also warning you ahead of time, if you are offended by foul language – do not watch this.

But if you want to see someone who pulls absolutely no punches and speaks with no fear, check out Wes Clark in this video clip:

9/11 Pentagon Video Disappoints Rather Than Dispelling Conspiracy Theories

“The release of new video images of Flight 77 hitting the Pentagon is both a direct assault against a 9/11 truth movement that has flourished in recent months and an attempt to reinforce the attendant propaganda of 9/11 in light of Bush’s 29% approval rating.”

That from the website www.prisonplanet.com, a leader in that movement. Their article is linked above.

I looked at the video on the BBC’s website (view it there yourself) and this is nothing new. You see this silver thing which may be a plane or may not. In fact, except for one new angle, in which I could see no conclusive evidence of what type of plane, or that this was a plane, this is the same footage from the Pentagon used in the 911 Truth documentary Loose Change which you can view here.

I know. If it isn’t a plane, where is Flight 77? I don’t know. But the lack of debris from a jet on the ground sure lends credence to claims there was no plane or that it was not a Boeing 757. Continue reading

The Democrats are Punks

Despite the fact that the entire world wants the Bush regime out of office, the Democratic Party balks at the prospect of impeachment.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco has told her caucus that the idea of impeaching President Bush isn’t in the cards if the party takes over the House in November’s elections.

Pelosi, who Republicans have charged intends to lead an impeachment effort, dismissed the idea when she spoke Wednesday morning at a closed-door caucus of the House’s 201 Democrats. Pelosi also restated her opposition to the idea of censuring Bush over his decision to invade Iraq in March 2003. Continue reading
