Inspiración: Lisa Luevanos Mural Dedication in Southwest Detroit

On December 19 we were honored to attend the dedication of a serape mural created by our good friend and client, Lisa Luevanos in Southwest Detroit. As she told the Detroit News:

Luevanos calls the viaduct mural Inspiración, or inspiration, in Spanish. Her inspiration was her mother and grandmother, both artists, and this mosaic is a fitting tribute to her roots. But she also hopes the piece will inspire everyone who passes by — and that’s a lot of people on this busy thoroughfare. “What I want you to take away is a moment of happiness,” she said. “When people look at it, it makes you happy.”

Blocked

So an old friend and roommate of mine blocked me on Facebook today. He was angry because I had the audacity to suggest that not all Muslims are extremists. That's the same as believing that all white Christians are members of the KKK. And I chastised him because I know he knows better.When the formerly reasonable and clear headed among us begin to lose our way, it is THEN that we know the terrorists are winning. Before we start lashing out in anger at whomever happens to be around, let's stop, breathe and think rationally. Only then can we understand the best ways to create PEACE...
