Can they really get away with this?
In an interview with ABC News, Dick Cheney admitted that he authorized and supported the practice of waterboarding on Guantanamo detainees.
The world has condemned this form of torture for centuries. After World War II, the United States prosecuted Japanese soldiers who used the technique, and convicted them as war criminals.
How can the people of the United States allow Dick Cheney and George W. Bush to arrogantly flaunt their crimes in our faces?
We should be embarrassed and ashamed, and we are accessories to the crime if we don’t do something about it.
In the same interview, Cheney claimed the administration’s invasion of Iraq was justified by Saddam Hussein’s “potential” to create weapons of mass destruction. No matter the reality that Saddam had no such capability.
Cheney believes Guantanamo should remain open until the war on terror ends in spite of nearly universal opposition to the operation of the torture camp.
Bush has already admitted that he ordered the illegal wiretapping of U.S. citizens. These men should be indicted and prosecuted for the crimes they have admitted, not to mention the numerous crimes outlined in the Articles of Impeachment filed in Congress by Cynthia McKinney and Dennis Kucinich.
The U.S. Congress has failed the people and failed the Constitution with its failure to act against these war criminals. It is now up to the American people to demand justice.
