Young MI Republican Predicts Strong GOP Performance

Nadir's MTV Street Team '08 ProfileOriginally Published at Think.MTV.com

Don’t get it twisted. John McCain did not pull out of Michigan, and Republicans are going to make a strong showing in races across the state. That note of confidence comes from Central Michigan University senior Dennis Lennox.

The 24 year-old Lennox has been working for McCain and other GOP candidates throughout northern Michigan. He’s running the Republican Party office in his county, and in addition, he is the Republican candidate for Cheboygan County Drain Commissioner. Continue reading

Slow Boat to China

Though we’ve heard almost nothing about this from the mainstream media, the news that China plans to shift its economic focus from exports to its domestic market should cause some concern.  As Tom Mullen observes in his blog on BreakTheMatrix.com, “This is the beginning of the end for the U.S. dollar and what is left of the U.S. economy.”

In their bid to stabilize their own economy, the Chinese may look to boost the value of the yuan instead of pegging it to the U.S. dollar.  Mullen says,

The Yuan will quickly float to its natural high value, allowing the Chinese people to purchase themselves those products that they used to export to the U.S. This will also mean that U.S. consumers will have to either do without those products, or pay the much higher prices of their counterparts that are made in the U.S. The higher prices of U.S. made products may go even higher due to the decreased overall supply, depending upon how that decreased supply balances against decreased U.S. demand (purchasing power).

However it plays out, it will mean a huge shift in standard of living, with the Chinese enjoying a higher standard, while the U.S. suffers probably the biggest decrease in standard of living in its history.

And don’t forget that Chinese banks own a huge amount of U.S. debt.  Tough times are ahead.  Be prepared.

Nadir Covers RNC for MTV

Nadir's MTV Street Team '08 Profile

While the media’s attention is focused on Denver this week and the Democratic National Convention, I’m packing my bags and gearing up for next week.  I will be covering the Republican National Convention for MTV/Knight’s Street Team ‘08.

That’s right.  MTV is sending me to St. Paul to hang out with my good friends John McCain, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and of course, GDub.  I will blog and Twitter all day every day, and I’ll submit video at the end of each night.  You will be able to catch my Twitter updates here at DistortedSoul.com and on MTV’s www.chooseorlose.com.  Look for video on my profile at Think.MTV.com/Nadir.

I’ll also keep a close eye on the protests that will occur throughout the Twin Cities, and I’ve got plans to slip over to Ron Paul’s Rally for the Republic on Tuesday.

It should be an exciting week!  I’m looking forward to it!

Partisan Politics Trump the Constitution?

I was just checking out Dave Lindorff’s report from the House Judiciary hearing on impeachment. Two items stood out to me immediately.

First:

As Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), chairman of the committee, made clear more than once during the six-hour session, this was “not an impeachment hearing, however much many in the audience might wish it to be” He might well have added that he himself was not the fierce defender of the Constitution and of the authority of Congress that he once was before gaining control of the Judiciary Committee, however much his constituents, his wife, and Americans across the country might wish him to be.

Yep. Conyers is bowing down to Pelosi’s pressure on this one. He is more interested in keeping his job as judiciary chair than in defending the Constitution. Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Continue reading
